Home Buyers Construction Guide |
New home buyers will be more informed about the construction process and ongoing maintenance requirements with the release of a new publication by the Master Builders Association.
The "Home Buyers Construction Guide" aims to inform new home buyers about what they can expect during construction of their new home and thereafter.
Master Builders Assoications Housing Director Gavan Forster said that many new home buyers were unaware of the levels of finish that should be achieved during construction or whether apparent defects were a problem in reality.
"Given that a new home is not produced in a controlled factory environment, it is inevitable that imperfections may occur. The Guide explains in plain English common issues that arise during the construction process and whether any corrective action is needed", Mr Forster said.
"Common concerns about slab cracks, plaster and cornice cracks, glass scratches and mould are discussed, with advice on whether remedial action is required", Mr Forster added.
The Guide also provides a useful handover checklist template which can identify areas of the new home that need attention at the end of the construction process. Mr Forster said that the Guide also contains valuable advice on how a new home should be maintained.
"Just like a new car, a home requires regular maintenance and cleaning to areas like gutters, vanity tops, doors and shower screens which is also included", Mr Forster said.
The Home Buyers Construction Guide is priced at $10.00 per copy for members and $15.00 per copy for non members and is available from the Master Builders Association.
