For the past four years, the building industry has enjoyed an intimidation free work environment due to the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC).
However, despite the ABCC’s effectiveness in removing intimidation in the workplace, the Federal Government is moving legislation through Parliament which will ensure its successor organisation has a restricted ability to enforce the rule of law on building sites.
The building industry is a tough industry which requires a strong regulator to stamp out intimidation and standover tactics. As an industry, we need to stop the Federal Government from watering down the measures which make the ABCC an effective industry regulator. We need a strong cop on the beat!
